Could you briefly introduce yourself?

I'm Christophe Pettus, the CEO of PostgreSQL Experts, Inc., a boutique PostgreSQL consultancy. I've been using PostgreSQL since the 7.x days.

Have you enjoyed previous pgconf.eu conferences, either as attendee or as speaker?

Yes! I very much enjoy pgconf.eu. It is one of the two must-attend conferences of the year for me (the other being pgcon.org in Ottawa, Canada).

What will your talk be about, exactly? Why this topic?

Data modeling is not an ethically neutral job. Decisions that engineers and software designers make about the data affect the way people relate to computers, and as our lives are increasing led on-line, the kind of lives people can have. I'll discuss how seeming benign decisions can have negative consequences for people and companies, and how to avoid them.

What is the audience for your talk?

Engineers and managers involving in the design of database systems, in particular in terms of data modeling.

What existing knowledge should the attendee have?

Some experience in databases is useful, but not required.
