Could you briefly introduce yourself?

My name is Jan Karremans, born and bred in the South-West of The Netherlands some years ago. Since I have moved to the Middle-East of The Netherlands, toiling myself on a variety of challenges and jobs along the way, from administrator, through development and management, quick dip into sales, back to technology.

Starting out as an Oracle database administrator, infrastructure person and through development team-lead and boring management to database technology evangelist. During those days I made it to Oracle ACE, out of which program I was kicked out of as soon as I adopted PostgreSQL.

Have you enjoyed previous pgconf.eu conferences, either as attendee or as speaker?

I would probably have, if it wasn’t that PGConf.EU 2017 was my first ever pgconf.

What will your talk be about, exactly? Why this topic?

Together with Daniel Westermann, I want to explore what we went through, what someone else could go through, when the see themselves moving from an extensive Oracle background into this world of Open Source Database Technology.

What is the audience for your talk?

Anyone who is interested and has somewhat of an open mind. Oh, and if one wants to participate and join any discussions, everyone is ever so welcome to!

What existing knowledge should the attendee have?

There is no requirement for any existing knowledge. We want to have a good time on stage and share this with the attendees.
